Providing Inspiration Through Music...
Since signing on the air in October of 1993, WFMV has
created a positive new niche to the urban sound in Columbia,
South Carolina - 'Your Inspiration Station'. The
contemporary format features winning artists like CeCe
Winans, Smokie Norful, Mary Mary, Shirley Caesar, John P.
Kee, The Georgia Mass Choir, and Kirk Franklin. We treat
listeners to a rich blend of contemporary gospel hits of
today, as well as a touch of the classics.
Keeping Listeners Informed
Interviews, news headlines, local weather and community
billboards from 6am to 10am on the 'The Morning
Inspirations' give listeners up-to-date information. We also
air features such as Wellness Watch (health and exercise);
Real Power (political analysis and voter information); Kid's
Korner (safety, recreation, and education); and Watchdog
(consumer protection). WFMV produces a weekend public
affairs program.
'I-95'
offers an in-depth look at issues facing the community with
weekly guests and regular segments that keep listeners
informed about upcoming events.
Celebrating Community
Each spring, Your Inspiration Station presents an annual
Choir Concert Series - a four week celebration featuring
over 40 Midlands church and community choirs. Over 8,000
listeners regularly attend this four-week series. The
Concert Series culminates with GospelFest - our annual
family and fun day in Columbia's Finley Park. More than
40,000 gospel music fans attended the 2005 celebration of
music and education.
Staying Involved
Your Inspiration Station finds meaningful ways to give back
to the community. One of our most successful projects has
been the establishment of The Future Leader Scholarship
Campaign. Scholarship awards are slated for students who are
strong academically, but lack financial resources needed to
attend college. Your Inspiration Station coordinates the
partnership of High School Guidance Counselors, corporate
sponsors, advertising supporters and individual donors. To
date, the fund awarded 84 students $134,000 in scholarship
dollars.
Setting Trends
WFMV and Your Inspiration Station set music trends that
spread across the country. WFMV was also named Southeast
Music Award's 1995 Radio Station of the Year. Recent
articles in R&R, BRE, The State, and Attitudes recognize
WFMV as a forerunner in the re-emergence of gospel music.
